The Zapatistas

The Zapatistas have found different means to achieve the solving of there problems. They have found ways to get the government to try and change there lives for the better. In the past the Chiapas who are know represented by the Zapatistas were starving to death because when the Spanish people came 500 years ago they pushed the Chiapas people up into the mountains were the land is very bad for growing crops. the crops these crops were supposed to sustain there lives but they could not crow enough food so lots of people starved to death. The Chiapas people need to do something about this. There whole people were going extinct because they did not have enough food. They created the Zapatistas, this group than in 1994 declared war on the government of Mexico. The Zapatistas took over many Mexican city but then suddenly they decide to be peaceful this was surprising thing for many people. The reason they became peaceful was because they believed they could get people to see there problems through globalization. The reason they wanted people to see there problems is because they believed that people would see how bad that the Chiapas were being treated and the people would pressure the Mexican government to do something to fix there problems. This seems to have worked for the Chiapas. Know the government is funding and building health care centers, Schools, and roads. The government is also distributing food to the Chiapas people. There peaceful approach to this has helped them tonnes.

Oka Crisis

Today I will write on the Oka crisis. I will write about the chain of events that occurred and caused the many problems for Canada. This was all caused by a proposal to build a golf course on Mohawk sacred land. This proved to be a problem that effected the whole country. The three mistakes that I will bring to attention are first the lack of consulting on the part of the town of Oka, second the police meeting the Mohawk with violence, and third the lack of corporation by Canada's government.

This all started in March of 1990. The reason it began was because there was a golf course planned to be built on Mohawk sacred land. The Mohawk decided to arm themselves and make a road block to prohibit access to there sacred land. The first big reason that caused this was the town of Oka not consulting the Mohawk when making pans to build the golf course. This lack of involvement caused the Mohawk to have to take matters into there own hands they stopped the people from being able to build the Golf course. This was the major mistake that set violence into play.

The next mistake was made by the police they sent in a swat team to clear out the blockade. The problem with this was that they met violence with violence. This mistake cost Corporal Marcel Lemay his life. The police could have found out what the problem was and negotiate with the Mohawk people. This was a very costly mistake they should have thought before they shot.

The last mistake caused violence by the whole Canadian first nation population. The reason for this was because Canada sent the army in to control the Mohawk blockade. This looked bad and caused the first nations of Canada to see how unfair it was for them. They came together and supported the Mohawk. The native people burned bridges made there own blockades, and protested with there fellow first nation Mohawks. All the government had to do was to treat the people natives in the Oka crisis fair and negotiate with them. This could have prevented all three of these problems.

I really believe these problems could have been avoided. people could have talked and gotten a compromise. The native poeple needed the government to pay atention to them and nogotiate with them. Since the government did not do this they had to get the governments attention through violence. I'm not saying that I think what the Mohawk did was good but I think it worked for them.

Should Whales be Realeased?

I think whales should because they would get killed in the wild. The whales don't have to have trainers right down at the water with them. they can just be taken care of by sea world or any other place that these whales are at.whales kill its just in there blood, there wild animals no one can change that. I think its unfair to make these whales that have lived in captivity all there lives and make these whales live in the dangerous world. this is why I think they should be kept in captivity but they don't have to have a trainer down at the water with them.

Similarities of the Australian Natives and the Canadan Natives

In this Blog I will write a paragraph on what the similarities are of the problems caused by Britain on Canadian Natives and the Australian Natives. In both these cases Britain went into these civilizations took control and harvested wealth from each countries natural resources. In both cases Britain tried to defend themselves by saying that they were there to try and civilize each native group. This civilizing process ended up causing assimilation of much of the language and culture for both native groups. In both of these Aboriginal cases there was great amount of sickness. This in both stories took out half of the population of the Native people. Both countries that were harmed were harmed mainly by the smallpox virus. Britain took advantage of the people in both cases they would trick them into signing unfair treaties and trick them into bad and at times life threatening situations. When it was all said and done both of these countries had there culture destroyed and there history and languages mostly forgotten. In both cases there benefits. Each native group obtained new products that would overall make there life easier and allow them to do more things.

Camparing British Influence on Canada and India

Both Canada and India was colonized by Britain in the 1600's these two situations had many similarities but when you look close they have many differences. The first key similarity is in each case Britain tried to assimilate the native population. The reason for this is that they thought that the different ways of each people were uncivilized. The British people thought they were doing these natives a favor teaching them how to be civilize but in fact they were just destroying these people's culture. The second similarity was that in both cases the British people thought they could claim the land for there King and Queen and and take anything they wanted. They just look at each place as unowned land that was there's for the taking and exploiting. The next similarity was that both lands had people on them before Britain claimed the. Both these people had a system that they had created and these systems seemed to work for both groups. They both did not need Britain's help but they both excepted the beautiful products that Britain brought to there countries. With these similarities there are many differences. With the first similarity the people of India did not allow themselves to assimilate as easily. They stood up for there rights and culture. The second similarities difference is that the British people could not take the land in India as easily as they did in Canada. They would have had harder battles to get the Land in India. India had already known European for centuries so they had knowledge that Britain was trying to assimilate there life style and culture. This knowledge that the people of India had and the Native people of Canada did not have was the knowledge of owning land.

Capitalism

Capitalism involves people that become very rich and people that are very poor. It is an economic system portrayed well in the American system. I do not like some of these things about this economic system. First I don't like how socially insecure it is. Second it has unaffordable health care. Last it does not keep people from getting to powerful or to poor. I will touch on these three points.

In this system of economics you can be working and making good wages one day and be out of work on the street the next. It is very hard to feel comfortable in this situation and when you do that is when it falls apart and your out of work and pay. In this economy you will have to rely on luck more than I feel comfortable doing. The cause of this social insecure situation is that there is no government or other sources to back you up and help secure you and help you maintain work.

The second thing is that you don't pay taxes to help save for those rough times you may experience in the future. This may sound good but to many times I here that people in countries like USA have accidents and have to go to a hospital. during there stay at the hospital they may easily go bankrupt if there there for extended periods of time. I know this by experience, a couple of years ago my brother broke his leg and had to stay at the hospital for six weeks. Through previous paid taxes our family could make it through money wise. If we lived in the USA we might not have been able to pay for those six weeks in the hospital.

The third and last thing is that in this economy people can get really rich and others are extremely poor. It seems to me that there is more poor people than rich people. There is a lot of people living in poverty usually because they cant get a good job and also try and keep that job for extended periods of time. there just to many people that don't have homes and lives because some people get all the money and these people get none. The really rich people have so much money that they don't know what to do with it.

In conclusion I mainly focused on the negative aspects of a capitalistic country. There are good things to. This can be said of any style of economics. The main problem with this economy is that it does not allow to be secure and safe money wise as easily as other economies.
